How do you become a bird dog

Hello everybody,

This is my first post here. I'm looking to get started in REI and I think a good place to start would to become a bird dog. I'm looking to become a bird dog so I can help established investors and learn to find/identify deals. I'm located in Northern California(Bay Area). Thanks for the time.
