Does anyone have any experience with the REIA in Pittsburgh? I am going to be getting my first place soon and was interested in joining, but didn't know how open it was to new members, what the structure is like, etc. I've taken a look at the website, but was hoping for a first hand opinion.

We have a group that meets once a month east of the city of Pittsburgh. (White Oak) It's free to attend. Depending on exactly where you live, this may be convenient for you.

There's also ACRE of Pittsburgh and Josh Caldwells group - which was already mentioned. All are good groups to be a part of.

Anthony,

I bought my first house in 2003 and joined ACRE shortly after that but the real tip is that i still attend every month and am I also am an active, as in I get free information and education every month, in PREIA (Josh Caldwell runs this one). I also frequent Jerry Kisasonak's group as well and a few other groups  (Otis DiCerbo and Brandin Yeagers groups both south of the city.)

Since I started attending I have purchased hundreds of house, flipped, wholesales a bunch and still hold 254 rental properties consisting of single family homes, small multifamily, warehouses and commercial properties totaling 357 units in all of these properties combined.

Sometimes I get the question when I am at these events "Why do I still attend PREIA, ACRE etc... If I have so many properties and the answer is????

I have done well in real estate investing because I committed to educating myself not just when I started but each and everyday. That  commitment is even more important as you start growing your portfolio and that is why I checked BP when I woke up this morning and read a few blogs and a few posts.

So join all of these groups, the cost compared to the info you get is an amazing value but more important than joining is attending, asking questions, meeting people etc...

If you join both ACRE and PREIA  this month, I will take you to lunch and share with you how we did it in the early years before we became Pittsburgh's #1 home buyer.

Good Luck,

Joe Calloway, RE360

PS. Excuse the spelling and grammar errors throughout this post I am in a hurry and frankly I am not that smart, which is the amazing thing about real estate investing a guy like me can build a company like RE360   And i am so bad a spelling that spell check cannot even identify what I am attempting to spell and I write a really really long sentence like this one with no punctuation

Thanks for the heads up @Joe Calloway! I started going on BP on the app and didn't see this reply until now. I'm going to look into the websites about signing up and hopefully join soon. I started following you on snapchat recently and I must say you have a lot of good information there.

Keep up the good work and thank you for the heads up! I really need to learn how to use BP better.

@Jerry Kisasonakcan you please message me more information? I'd be interested in attending

@Anthony Angotti

Locate and attend 3 different local REIA club meetings great place to meet people gather resources and info. Here you will meet wholesalers who provide deals and rehabbers (cash buyers). Find them through Google and meetup.com

I have an attachment on what happens at a REIA and how to network at it if you email me.

Anthony Angotti - I agree with everyone else. Education is key!

My husband and I belong to ACRE, we have found it to be very worthwhile to go. Not only is the content great, but people there will bend over backwards to help you get started. We have nothing but good things to say about the people we met and work with through ACRE.

There is also a MeetUp by Alex Deacon, he hosts one in Carnegie one Saturday a month for free!

We have gone to Joe Calloway 's events as well through ACRE and his company - inspiring and very informational!

Also, request to join the Pittsburgh Real Estate Investors group on Facebook.

Hope that helps! I also can recommend a few books that I've found useful for our buy/holds if you'd like. Good luck!!!

Thank you @Lacee Beitler for the kind words. Out next class will be announced next week. It will be another charity class for a cause and it will be a start to finish case study on how we make an investment decision on an investment property. This will be great for first time investors as we will be walking through the investment decision from start to finish and be very informative to an experienced investor who is interested in our process.

I hope to see everyone there. Last month we raise over $5600 for the family of a fellow investor going through some tough time and we hope the next one raises even more for another great cause.

I moved to Pittsburgh about 8 months ago and started educating myself about real estate shortly afterwards. ACRE and WPREIA are great places to start to learn and network. I try to attend the meetings monthly plus we attend a REIA subgroup meeting weekly. To answer your question specifically, REIA is very open to new members and you will find that Josh Caldwell is very approachable -as are most of the investors in the meetings. I have also attended Joe Callaways's events and I know I'll continue to attend as they have been very informative! Plus you've got to love that he is raising funds for charity... Just join and see how it feels for you. I know I am very thankful to have found such a dynamic and friendly group.

Hi All,

I am new to BP as well and am looking for some groups to get involved with in the Pittsburgh area. I live in the south hills but groups in other parts of the city would be great too. Any chance I could get some more specific information of when and where meeting are?

Thanks!

Casey
