Are "Free" seminars worth my time?

Good morning BP! I just had a simple question and wanted advice. I'm a newby to the real estate world so of course I am trying to soak up all the info around. There is a "free" real estate course coming to my city (Columbus Oh) and was wondering if it's even worth my time going? Have any of you new investors went to these events and gained valuable information and resources? I've been reading Brandon Turners real estate investment book and he said to shy away from these "free" classes. If you have been to these seminars, what were you positive/negative take away? I'm just trying to learn all I can to avoid common pitfalls and connect with individuals in my area. Thanks in advance for your thoughts.
