Were straddling between doing a 121exc and 1031 or just selling straightup with the 121exc and paying the remaining CG taxes to have some flexibility on where to reinvest v forced timeline of the 1031. 

You absolutely can use an installment sale in conjunction with a 1031 exchange... though I’m not sure if this is the answer to the current predicament.. we handle these all the time, especially on straddled year 1031 exchanges.- REI CPA
