Internships and apprenticeships are one route.

Here in Colorado, you need to have a real estate license, and in order to get your license you need to go through what basically amounts to an apprenticeship for two years (associate), before you can have your own firm.  

Guessing you are in the apprenticeship program => which is not stable enough to offset the 4 months.DSR might work with 20-25% down. 

But for sure to be a successful agent there is an apprenticeship aspect..

@James Wise  I knew you could contribute more than welcoming folks to the site  LOL.GREAT POST and DEAD ON PIONT.You just don't wake up one day and have all sorts of money thrown at you because you decided you want to jump in the RE game.. you MUST do some apprenticeship or however you want to couch it.

I told them that I have not heard of one coaching program that actually uses a mentoring/apprenticeship model.
