My name is Walter and I am active duty military stationed out of Norfolk.

I am active duty military and I am trying to plan for my time after my service.

I personally don't focus on airlines as I find every airline has a different hub etc and we move alot (military family).

I live near two military bases, and I see a lot of military personnel get transferred and try to rent out their primary home to keep it as an investment and it seems to me that they are losing money.

Both are about a mile from base and are highly sought after by military personnel because they rent for amounts perfectly within their BAH (basic allowance for housing).

Technically my contract is with the Army Corps of Engineers since the tenant is in the military.

I currently work for a military base and I know for a fact that working here isn't going to give me the education and experience that I need to learn when it comes to investing in real estate.

Fort Campbell is based there and is the main employer (I am former military so I understand and know that).  

For instance, I went to work early one morning in September 2001 and was not able to return to my apartment for two weeks and then with only a military escort.
