Oooo.... somehow, this turned into a Linda Weygant fan club post. 

Beyond buying food, clothing, and basic shelter, and maybe paying to correct health issues, all other spending is "discretionary", so it really doesn't make any difference if your hobby is playing golf or paying down your mortgage. 

Meet as many people as possible in your market  Join all the investor clubs, but be a little leery of the clubs that are for profits.

I've gone to many meetup groups for the past 50+ years and the only thing I see at the new and unprofessional meetups is, "The Blind Leading The Blind" and a lot of b.s..When I go to the more-established REI clubs they are always bring in Snake Oil Salesmen who are hawking their crap for around $1,000 and the president of these clubs should be fired for advocating these Snake Oils Salesmen.
