I could see tile underneath, and from the appearance I believe it may contain asbestos.Since I haven't dealt with homes this old before, that then triggered the thought that there may be other materials in the home that contain asbestos.

My wife and I just went through this and pulled the trigger on a place at 650k- a far cry from the 400k we spent 10 years ago on our first.I think there is something to it IF you have pride in home ownership, have young kids or are big on entertaining- I personally love my house, it’s the fortress of solitude (well..relative solitude, see above about young kids)

If still in expansion mode and your loan is long term, I'd keep the cash liquid.I only accelerated mortgages after stocking my dry powder, then focused on higher rate and/or risk loans.
