One is an individual with only personal medical coverage asking $700 the other is a small company with general liability and worker's comp asking $1050.  

One bad month or emergency (medical/ car/etc) and you are screwed.....

I've heard from Jesse Vasquez (big in medical professional housing) that he doesn't do rent by the room for liability reasons but I've heard many are successful with it.

An expensive repair to the Prius and some hefty medical bills could be disastrous without the cash savings.   

I'm a little sensitive to over investment in a property as well.  

More jobs, businesses, better travel connections (for example, we have 3 airports in the tri-county area, which have more frequent variety of flights all over the world), history, we are more sexy (at least in Miami, which tends to be more in the news / public eye) than West Coast, logistics, medical and other industries thrive (and, therefore, hire) here more than on the West Coast.

There are alternatives like short-term medical plans (pre-ACA), faith-based sharing arrangements (premiums are not deductible as it's not insurance), or catastrophic plans that will cost less and maybe that's the way to go instead of trying to save and invest through an HSA - it just depends.

Talk to bigger employers, medical centers etc and let them know about your listing for visiting staff.

Call around to the local medical offices or talk to the companies that place traveling nurses and they'll tell you.

Major corporations like Intel, Honda, Nationwide Children's Hospital, and Wexner Medical Center are investing heavily in the region and creating numerous job opportunities.
