Your comments about the loan product are consistent with what we've been hearing, but the product does indeed exist:The HUD guide to the loanA blog post about the FHA Construction to Perm productThe idea of paying cash for the lot is a great one which I hadn't considered, but unfortunately lots here in Brooklyn start at $350k and only go up from there; if we could pay cash for the lot we could put 25%+ down on the whole project!

The vagueness is demonstrating that the completed product meets all of the building code requirements - the original intent of these was of course not habitation so the local agency (LA County in this case) needs to be provided the evidence to approve these as structures meeting building code requirements.

I am of the opinion there is more than one way to skin a cat @Keith ThompsonNot to get too high on my soap box, but I have more freedom than most financial advisors to have that opinion because I don't get paid to sell financial products and my fee is not based on the percentage of your assets I manage.
