This is one area where I really wouldn't cut costs if I were you.  

Right now, it seems very cost effective and profitable to do this using a pre-fabricated home... where the materials are cut in a factory, then shipped to the job site, and the home is stick-built on site.

It’s the Midwest so not really much appreciation anyways.This is a highly rated turn key provider so I think they just want to cut their loses with me and I cut my loses with them (just don’t see eye to eye on some things).

Have them estimate the cost if you are unable to get a variance.Unless you are a construction professional, I would want an "expert" verifying the pros didn't make a mistake or willfully cut corners on work you paid for. 

What I would consider is to paint the walls, to cut down on cost as well as break up the ongoing wood look!

You are correct about service dates etc But what I'm saying is if you find a company that is willing to do multiple studies at a discount because they can do them at the same time you can bundle the price they're still different studies but there are companies that will cut you a break if you do three or four of them at the same time in the same general area since they only need to send an engineer out once etc.I know that core solutions group that I use is been willing to do that for people.

They only pay out on certain things, there's a deductible to pay for every claim, they may deny your claim, you have to wait on them to send a vendor, and they will send a cheap vendor and try to cut corners. 

There can be many ways to cut the proverbial cake, so I highly recommend working with a financial advisor or insurance professional that has access to the leading companies and understand policy design.
