Typically educational costs incurred to obtain a designation that can qualify you for new position are not deductible, costs incurred that maintain or improve your skills within a current position are deductible.For example continuing professional education taken by a CPA to maintain the CPA license would be deductible, but if that same CPA took law classes that led to a Law degree (so the CPA could now practice Law) that would not be deductible.
