Start hanging out at your local REI meetup.

Get yourself into a house, rent out the spare bedrooms or units, and hang out there until you pay off the debt.

If you want to work with investors I would be where investors hang out.   

If mom or dad lights you up, interrupt them in a pleasant way and let them know you look forward to discussing their issue when they’re able to do so respectfully and hang up.

You may want to look at starting closer to home until you get the hang of VR as it is of work, but is definitely worth it.
