I saw that housing prices were at lows that hadn’t been seen in a long time and interest rates were at historic lows, and with some creative math we might just be able to afford a home in our (very pricey metro-NY) market.

Hi @Parker Mott, there's no issue for you to do what you're envisioning, though many of the Real Estate service providers (Realtors, lawyers, mortgage agents, etc.) you'll deal with are going to give you a hard time for being to creative.

You could also be creative and have a trenchless service do the job for you on that 4.5', not sure if it brings the price down.
