What type of damage are we talking about? 

I found a seller selling a home that had damage to the front of the house due to a tree following down on it.

We went over there today to complete the inspection - they had just gotten the utilities turned on - and saw water in the basement.

Either by using an underground pipe or at the least, installing a flexible diverter to direct the water away.It looks like a muddy mess now, but there is a ton of potential. 

As a community, I think that we can do a better job educating newbies to keep them out of hot water, help them make money, and in return get good deals out of it. 

For someone barley getting there feet in the water, what would be the best books and educational material to get?
