I have a rental property with up and downstairs tenants Just recently the downstairs tenant has complained about them getting a smoke smell from the upstairs neighbours in their unit.

Clarification - we are most interested in covering up the smell, as well as setting us up for success afterwards in terms of using a paint type and finish that will be best for the long run.

Look for the things that are surface level that turn normal buyers away (smells, messes, etc.) 

He isnt going to sell you a Clayton Morris pile of **** and claim it smells like flowers.

I'm going to paint all the walls anyway and at some point lay down lvp so if the house needs work I smell a discount.
