I have asked a generaI contractor for references and was instructed to go on their website and Facebook to read the cleient reviews and see pictures of their past projects.

That's why I also did all the home depot runs, worked with the contractors, installed the floors, etc.   

Its like contractors, you may have to go through one or two bad ones, but once you find a good one, your set.This is a business, if they don't want to do their job then you have to find someone that will. 

I say that to say right now you may not have cash or savings , but here is plenty of ways to get into real estate for instance getting a license , giving up elbow grease to a contractor , volunteering at an attorneys office and calling your local municipal office to see what the laws are .
