I also install smoke detectors and replace the batteries once a year...whether they are wired in or not.If a tenant accidentally starts a fire in the kitchen, I don't want my property to burn down simply because there was no extinguisher available to put the fire out.Two items on my checklist for getting a unit ready for rent is verifying the extinguisher is still there, charged, and unexpired.
