It matters not what the tax office shows, it only matters what the survey shows, assuming of course the survey is correct and they are wrong more often than folks believe.

The enrollment fee to which you are referring is not a down payment, it doesn't go toward a loan, does not guarantee that we will fund a deal for you that doesn't meet the correct criteria.

However, I just want to caution you against getting into the habit of hand-waving whenever someone brings up an expense you don't have in your calculations, saying "eh, don't worry about it; I have enough cash flow to cover it."

I don't want to think the firm we chose is doing this, but they certainly don't have strong incentives to do things fast, and I'm paying them to correct their own omissions/errors of the inexperienced engineer who were assigned on our project.So as you can see, I did my homework in choosing a local, reputable firm, who does lots of business with the city, and still ran into such an issue.

@Travelle Mason When I inspect houses I explain to my clients that each inspection item will fit into 1 of 3 categories:Issues that a big problem NOW and need to be corrected nowIssues that aren't causing a problem yet, but could cause big problems later if not addressedSmall items that really aren't that big of a deal (like @Brian Pulaski said)Home inspectors must assume that their clients want to know about every single defect.
