I live in the east bay and it seems like rent is really expensive but if I were to calculate 1% of the prices these units are selling for, that's a crazy amount to charge for rent!

The Bay Area market prices are pretty high compared to the rest of the country.

There are several great investing Meetups all over the Bay Area on there! 

It's a local REIA that meets every third Thursday of the month at the Emerald Coast Convention center on okaloosa island. and every 2nd Tuesday of the month at the Pensacola Bay Center.

With so few lenders, all from the same area, it's not a particularly competitive marketplace: A borrower can shop me v 30 other lenders in the Bay Area for 80/10/10 jumbo financing. 15 will say "no, can't be done," and the other 16 of us all going to say "yup we do that," and then proceed to quote the exact same interest rate on the HELOC 2nd, under the exact same terms and conditions, using the exact same product, from the exact same bank.
