That's called a leak.

During this time the gas company came out and turned their gas off because they said they detected a leak in the line going to the street.  

Well, I just got the inspection report back a few hours ago and the property needs a new porch, has two minor leaks, broken windows (which i new about), and some of the bricks on the top of the chimney are loose.

some had minor issues/repairs like a frozen pipe,  leaking pipe, creeking doors, damaged step, and stuff like that.  1 got hit by the recent floods in Indy requiring new furnace and water heater.

It had mold, termite damage, water leaks, typical stuff.

We trusted that a small leak under the sink would be a minor repair.

I ended up finding a job in a warehouse, enough to throw enough money towards my parents to help continue to meet rent & pay for food.To make matters worse the winter after my dad had a heart attack and was unable to care for himself, the house we lived in developed a very major underground natural gas leak resulting from a newly drilled oil well the owner of the farm had had permitted on the property.

I own a home relatively new (5 years) and there was a major leak in the house that I had to get fixed and a lot of restoration work is needed.

Because this house was vacant for so long, once we turned the water on there were several leaks, and the main sewer line cracked.Did you work with any real estate professionals (agents, lenders, etc.) that you'd recommend to others?

The worst situation to be in is a cash-strapped, stressed out house hacker without the funds to repair/maintain an old home, especially if something bad happens (say the roof develops a leak and you need to shell out 10 to 15 grand for a new roof).
