Some landlords have allowed tenants to paint with the understanding that they’ll paint it back the original color when they move out.

At Home Depot the gray color surface is tough and scratch resistant, one can pay $2.99 a sf and count on compliments + installation which is easy.

His best bet is to go on Craigslist make some calls, show up dressed nicely to a showing and being completely honest with the landlord.
