Sure you can protect yourself against loss but not against lost income or significant repairs for a property not taken care of. 

After reading Bigger Pockets forum posts on this similar topic, I've come to realize the following/have the following question:AirBnb's with FHA as I've now come to understand are not allowed in the supposed OWNER OCCUPIED unit.

ONLY do business when your starting out with reputable HML and one who is local who you can walk and in and talk to them in person.there are bigger players that are in multiple states. but NO one is in all 50.. these include.LendinghomeLendingoneLima oneVisio GensisAnchor Aloha Conventus and on and on and on.. there are plenty of legit lenders out there.
