I know the first time is going to be painful but I am keeping my hopes up that after the 2nd property this should go more smoothly but it looks good to me, but I would like some opinions, would this be considered a deal for you?

You could remove the end cap, fill with some Bondo/spackle/etc and sand smooth and paint.

IMO they are clunky systems because they don't get paid to be smooth. 

The process at least from our end was very similar to a normal deal and everything went smoothly.

Whenever you are buying a property out of state you should do a few things to ensure it's as smooth as possible.Don't buy in the roughest neighborhood in the urban core.

And a contractor who has a good reputation will be able to navigate more smoothly.
