I don't think a VA construction-to-perm wholesale lender has ever even hit me up for brokered business.

An assignment is part of wholesaling unless you plan on not getting paid in the middle.

In addition, some people plan to retire back at a base they were stationed at sometime in their career. 

I'd talk with a lot of different people including other investors, your CPA, your estate-planning attorney, and others. 

It's a big part of my lending business.

So working with an agent that will work with you to develop a plan of attack is super beneficial, especially when you aren't in town, or know anything about the city. 

We created an umbrella structured an LLC with Anderson Business Advisors.

Although the nightlife and culture (museums/food/music) was a great and calming change from the busy metro area, I felt isolated.

When I left, apart from the normal political shenanigans, it was very well run with a strong government presence, military renters, and organic business growth that wasn't dependent on tech cycles, credit crunches, etc.
