Sorry for hijacking this thread, but my wife and I are hoping to also build a shipping container home in the LA area, but unlike OP our goal is to build a perm home and in the future add in an ADU as a rental unit (or start off with a single 40ft container as a live-in while building out a longer term larger property out of many containers).Was purposefully vague about where we want to buy our land.

Flexibility on purpose what you can use funds for.Other options are to save in regular mutual funds contributing on a monthly basis- taking advantage if dollar- cost averaging..You may want to talk to one of the financial planners.

Student loan debt and rent spikes will fuel a drive to even cheaper areas within the City and the local owners will embrace it but the tenants will be upset by the gentrifiers because their rents will go up and new, different businesses will push out older, familiar shops.I find it a little ironic that a couple of anti-gentrification folks are resorting to these types of tactics to keep presumably white gentrifiers out of a German neighborhood.
