Sure, the Realtors could have/should have done more research to determine the current state of the title and to review the closing documents (some of that burden is on you, as well), however ultimately I think its the lawyer at the title company who had the responsibility to catch this.

Ultimately, this whole incident shows how important it is for tenants to know their rights when dealing with landlords: what actions are appropriate and which are not?

I'd appreciate it.By the way, I'm ultimately going to take advantage of tax liens here in Florida; however, I see excess proceeds as being a better opportunity as a cash boost for the meantime.
