Old houses like what you described can be money pits unless you are a contractor.  

Having a separate bath was viewed as a convenience, particularly for the help.

They types of properties typically don't produce very attractive or exciting aerial views also.

As for how well that works…  keeping in mind that ours was a $1,000 rental - not a nicer house that would rent for $2,000… The last house we listed for one day, had 1200 views - not a typo - 1200 views.
