So the idea of investing a fund of funds like Brian Underdahl was apparently running (where he says he was considering so many newbie syndicators),would be an easy "no way"..for me.

I would recommend going to a local real estate meet up to talk to NY investors and they may have more ideas. 

In that I would not own the home in my name (the trust would) under those assumptions.Is this even a reasonable strategy to jump start a real estate investment portfolio, any alternative ideas are welcome.I hope I have stated this with enough clarity, Please let me know if additional information is required to answer the question.

I personally believe that this is still a sound business idea if executed properly, however, whenever I talk to family and friends about this, most of them "down" this idea saying that there is no money to be made.

The investments you're looking to do would definitely be longer term and it's always a great idea.
