It doesn't say what he paid for them but he bought them in 2007...Downtown L.A has become a lot more desirable since then, so I'm guessing he made a nice profit. 

There are gaps and cracks in the siding going into the attic, there are repairs to be made to the eaves and areas around windows (plus almost all of the windows need to be replaced). 

I made a good chunk of money trading a couple of stocks I got lucky on finding but I also lost a lot.
