I don't come from a real estate/investing background but got bit by the bug after attending a free REI weekend program in OKC.

Is there anything else I should be doing in the background to prep? 

That’s just a little background on me and my experiences.Despite growing up in the construction industry and having an uncle that is an investor I never was really interested until me and my wife started looking to buy our first home(which we recently did in Eaton rapids, mi), we where trying to figure out how we could afford a home of our own despite having a decent amount of debt.

I am looking for some websites for checking my tenant background.

Otherwise, the first acceptable tenant to pass credit & background and put down a security deposit & first month's rent gets it.

Then if someone wants to leave, if the remaining 2 can pay, fine, if they want to find a new person and they can pass credit/app/background check, fine, if not the co-signer ends up responsible along with the roommates if there's a no-pay situation.

I’m also reading the BRRRR book by David Green, which has given me more specific goals on what to do next like finding a RE agent with a background in investing, and creating my core four from people in my area.
