If they can be cosmetically saved by sanding and finishing, will they still need to go to get rid of the smell?

Once we had a full sand and poly done the odor was gone.

I have been to Singapore... and your description is right on.. we are staying at the millinum the one with the ship built on top of it.. and the longest infinity pool in the world and I think the highest off the ground  :)I could see living in Thailand for those that like the beachs and water.. its pretty great.. warm clear sand is like baking powder.. 

My small community bank thought we were still living in the 1950's and they only wanted to do business with "important members of the community".

Coastal or central?

Of course, the trade off is you probably won't see the natural appreciation of coastal cities in these markets.My advice is find a city and get to know the neighborhoods, reach out to investor friendly agents and start building a team on the ground.

What goes through my mind is a view of a turquoise ocean, white sand, red sunset and the flavor of rum punch...I sit and ponder what it is that allows me to enjoy such an experience...
