I would try to not let emotion play a role here and outweigh what it says on paper as to what makes the most sense to do- ergo being too eager to have one buy and hold property if it made more sense to sell. 

Today residential is overpriced, emotional, and competitive. 

For reasons that were more emotional than rational*, we decided to keep the old house as a rental.

Then I decided to dig a bit deeper and look at building permits that may have been issued.

I think it might pay to have a goal in mind that is more number based than emotional and making sure the numbers are the driving force apart from the desire to simply own multifamily alone.

The other side of the coin is that there will truly be a few evictions that are not warranted, and you can look deeper into an eviction case.

Dealing with people’s drama is a real mental and emotional time suck!

I know there’s other “emotional” reasons for why we invest the way we do.

I would add making emotional vs business decisions.  

I've found that house owning is so deeply ingrained in our minds that even when it makes more financial sense to sell, we continue to have an emotional attachment to our properties.
