I think there are 2 options, either restore the home to its 2 unit form and go for the approach of live in a great house and have someone help pay their mortgage or try and turn it into a 4 or 5 unit apartment building.

If i wanted my duplex dream within a year, I could do a FHA loan, but I don't believe what I could rent it for would cover my monthly mortgage.. not even considering money I would have to reserve for incidentals.The second thought I've been researching would be to buy lower cost properties in upstate new york and rent to college students while still living in long island.

most say I should be greatful that I have a job and that life isn't so bad but I am living pay check to pay check renting a 1 br apartment in someone else's house.my family (mother father and niece that they are raising) had to relocate from new York to Delaware, they are really the only family I have left and I do want to be around them, at the same time my job is in ny so I am stuck between a rock and a hardplace I recently came into a bunch of "life changing" money and I don't know the first thing to do with it money.
