The missile only works if there isn't roots, etc in the way to change its course. 

The only thing I might do next time is bring a bottle of hand soap and paper towels and ask them to wash their hands upon entering.

Double up on their living space.For the true long term homeless having access to nice clean (maid service) and hot shower and free soap will probably be a nice luxury.

In these older homes, it is not uncommon that the roots of the trees go through your sewer lines.

The roots are probably under the house!

Being former military, I'm probably most familiar with the Killeen area, but have also been growing roots in the Georgetown area. 

And don't forget to get weed control products like Preen into your process; Preen requires that the weeds first be removed (it helps to prevent weed seed from germinating, so roots and all of the weeds must go first).  

Fall planting allows the plants to put their energy into developing their root systems rather than top growth.
