I have 1,000 and wondering if i should continue saving for my emergency funds or gamble and invest it.

Ultimately, people come to appreciate the absolute convenience and built-in security of online accounting services. 

Convenient mountain towns with access to major transportation routes are not significantly less expensive than places on the front range. 

I might like to grab a six pack and pack of smokes just cuz it's so darn 'convenient'.

You are offering them a convenience btw and asking to be rewarded for making their life easier isn't unethical as long as you are up front about it.

It was not our primary revenue stream but we owned/controlled the adjacent scrap (empty) land and it was a very small (and inexpensive) lot but convenient for 'customers'... but I'd do it again in a heartbeat if I had a similar opportunity.

Assuming you agree with that statement, then you would be buying at the top of the market, which would be exactly the opposite of the saying, "Buy low, sell high", but you have the convenience of potentially waiting out the coming correction and earning some good money on your property while having your tenants pay down your mortgage for you.  

You'd have to gamble a little bit by being out of the area but I would go for it rather than a significantly smaller return in a local area.
