Airbnb has an incentive to maximize the revenue for the system as a whole, not for your individual property, and their algorithm is widely regarded as sub-optimal.

If you are accurate you could potentially market your algorithm to other investors or definitely make yourself more valuable in a partnership. ultimately this allows you to be profitable buy getting more profitable deals.  

VRBO uses conversion rates in their algorithms to determine "best match." 

(FICO treats their exact algorithms as a trade secret).

Here is my personal experience as follow:Went to the site and had no issue with finding a qualified VA for my work.Interviewed freelancer using skype as he is overseas.Had my account suspended the next day as they had a computer algorithm that suspected that I was attempting to circumvent their service. 

Prosper, LC, etc do all of it through algorithms.  

The price I need to buy at to rehab and turn a profit is much lower than the algorithm the bank uses to calculate the price they'll let an REO go for.

At the same time they have changed a lot of their ranking algorithms which might be what is dropping traffic to lesser optimized ads.
