While unfortunately I don´t have any good input for you, I have to say that this reminds me of one of the BP podcasts; someone recounted a story where their 2 local roofing options turned out to be owned by a father and son, where they significantly overbid one price and still overbid the lower one, but in comparison the lower bid looked much more attractive.

But the attraction to sure deposit is you (hopefully) get the money from the bond and can quickly restore the unit to pre-damages condition and get it rented and not have to worry about pursing collection, going to court, but if what I’ve read and have been told about sure deposit is true, if Assurant (I believe) can’t pay the bond, what good is having it?
