You and @Eric Johnson are correct that a number of other Agency lenders on the lists that @Greg Dickerson sent have shut down their Small Balance (sub-$6M) business but some of us are still providing liquidity to the multifamily market. 

I pressed them for more specifics about their company, and they even sent over bank statements (clearly doctored), but had a legitimate state business registration in new York.

We sent them the fee and then they wanted us to send them more money as a down payment but would get 100% of it back as it was added to the loan.

Use simplest, cheapest means to filter first followed by more in-depth and costly processes (emails, then phone calls, then in-person meeting if possible, then background check)Basic guidelines I followed: Got applicants on a phone call before I sent an application.
