Many argue a umbrella policy will do the same thing and I believe they are correct except under the worst case scenario (you accidentally kill a high net worth individual) but I did this for my personal asset protection not simply RE liability.

I have been a BP lurker for the better part of a year, digesting the amazing content that BiggerPockets (and all of its members) provides, but realized that I had never actually posted an official introduction...I am, for lack of a better term, an "accidental investor" - when my wife and I moved up here in 2013 I started renting out our home in Charleston, and about a year ago, my grandmother passed away and willed me a single family home in New Orleans that was also being rented out.

Depending on where you're buying, you can easily rent out a unit or home for $4000/mo if not more--but those neighborhoods you would be hard pressed to find a home, let alone apartment unit for $200,000.

@Anthony Gayden  great question and If I had a crystal ball I would be flying my G 4 around and not spending 2 minutes on BP  LOL...I call it the accidental millionaire  I was born in the BAy ARea raised in Cupertino and did not know anything else.. other than when you lived in that area owning a personal resi was rule number one..

He had another property where his property manager was stealing tenants money and deleting them out the system did he press charges nope.
