I could potentially find some canadian investors, although as far the taxes, you should contact BDO(accoutning firm) they are good with cross border tax laws.

The attorney firm you linked to... well their job is to protect you and that's why they say what they say.

Many index funds already have an allocation to RE so it may not even be necessary.Having said that I am a firm believer in the opportunities available in the relatively inefficient real estate market.

I haven't achieved this yet, and frankly speaking, I recently realized that working in such a 'wall street' type firm won't take me very close to my goal. 

A few of the bigger NC trustee service firms we've 'bought' (via power of sale in D-T) from are Rogers Townsend & Thomas, Hutchens Law Firm, Shapiro & Ingle, and Brock & Scott.

I will say my firm uses several off the shelf and custom built solutions but that is because of the size of our portfolio.  

I'm a young guy from North NJ eager to get started in real estate investing.  

I was halfway through my pursuit of a B.S. in Construction Management and had just completed my first out-of-state internship with one of the largest construction/engineering firms in North America.

My question is what extra questions and or precautions do you take when hiring a management firm that will be running a investment that will NOT be in driving distance?
