New guy! Michigan -> Arizona -> Colorado
So, I'm living in CO for the time being because of work (requires relocation at a moments notice), but was born and raised in MI. Also, due to a specific relation of mine I travel to AZ quite often. I've been a long time BP viewer and figured it was about time to make an effort to start actively participating. I can honestly say the content this site delivers is changing my life.
I found BP a few years ago, but couldn't really appreciate its value at the time. I was halfway through my pursuit of a B.S. in Construction Management and had just completed my first out-of-state internship with one of the largest construction/engineering firms in North America. This was a great experience in so many ways, most importantly in how it helped me understand my true motivations in life. The internship was 7 months, demanded 65-75 hours of work a week, and in that time ended up teaching me more than four years of schooling would. It provided a huge leg-up on other students and was a great resume booster. I was thankful for the experience and excited about my impending career, but still wasn't sure this was the best path to living the life I wanted and reaching my potential...Now, almost three years later, I'm working fulltime for that same company. This career is rewarding and I'm pretty good in it, but I still don't believe it's what I'm meant to do...
Like most of you, when I am truly motivated to do something, I am relentless in my efforts to succeed. I have set a lot of big goals in life, with many more constantly in the making (I'll save these for another time as I need to cut this short). Ultimately, I want freedom in my life to focus on my faith, family, friends, hobbies. Freedom to wake up every morning excited to pursue my goals in every capacity. Freedom to make a living in a way that utilizes every ounce of motivation and drive I can muster. Fortunately, and I believe this whole-heartedly, real estate investing will provide the means to achieve all of these freedoms. I love and thrive in an environment where every move I make is toward accomplishing a goal. Conveniently, I love the intricacies of real estate and have for a long time, but I just didn't realize I could put these interests to work for me in such an amazing way. I'm a very hard worker and pretty intelligent guy (so I like to believe). I understand the concepts of due diligence and delayed gratification, and expect the greatest success to come through educated trial and error. I've spent enough time the past few years learning and listening to everything REI related, to know that this developing passion of mine is not just some ephemeral feeling. Investing in real estate is what I want to do.
Anyway, aside from the profuse soliloquy above, I'm hoping to not just get all I can from BP, but also give. As of right now, I'm drawn to buy and hold of multifamily properties (single family is cool too), property management, value adding, business scaling, notes (ã la BawldGuy), and of course reaching financial freedom!
I look forward to being an active member in this Bigger Pocket's community!
