@JoAnn Dorio I can't speak to ALL the states, but Virginia has no minimum amount of time the contribution must remain in the 529 plan in order to qualify for the Virginia income tax deduction.

The only issue I forgot to mention is that I live in the home as well and the house has a VA mortgage on it, which means I cannot rent it out to anyone else.

My plan was to use a 0% down VA loan and buy a 2-4 family in the Cincinnati area in a nicer neighborhood where the people I believe would be easier to deal with.
