Wondering if there’s anyone out there who knows the permits and regulations down there for STRs?  

They typically will greatly reduce the fines when a new owner takes over, is Cooperative, and cures the problem.For an illegal addition the cure is usually either to remove it, or pull a permit for it, have it inspected, fix anything done improperly.The fine stays with the Property, yes You inherited it.

I understand that I might not get a land to build one, and might need to demolish an existing home to build this one.Will the city permits allow this?

Now that we have the new California ADU law in place for 2020, getting permit for it will be so much easier. 

So the value of the lease (less expenses and rent from a substitute tenant) is recoverable if the tenant has the ability to pay and you are willing to pursue it to judgment and beyond.There is however Maryland law which permits a physician’s cert as to medical condition or required care to reduce liability to 2 months.

Doing a rehab like the one you mentioned requires a lot of permits.

I’ve gotten the permit with the town, rental dwelling insurance, and am changing my address back to parents home for the time being.
