As for the licensing I don't particularly care one way or the other about the license, only that insurance generally requires a contractor's license in your locale (there's no "roofing license" where I am, just a contractor's license) in order to be valid (insurers don't want to write policies for just some guy who sticks his name on the van) and roofing is a high injury profession.
