I was thinking of buying a single family home while my fiancé thinks I should buy a duplex.

I have been searching for a duplex or multiplex in my hometown because I have to go there every few months and since family and friends are there I probably always will. 

Who'd want to pay for the Property Manager to make monthly visits to a Detroit house or Duplex?

Look for a duplex, triplex or quad with a lay out and in an area you’re comfortable living in.

So I am thinking about going the FHA route, since being single with a not so awesome salary it would take me a few years for a 20% house down payment.I'd be open to buying a duplex (but theyre mostly out of my price range) or something big enough to "house hack" and get help paying the mortgage.

I would like to start investing in multi-family properties, starting with duplexes.  

I am looking to include regulations for a duplex about parking and property maintenance either in the leasing contract  or as an addendum to the contract. 

I bought a group of 3 duplexes, and 2 single families on a no money down land contract. 8% interest.

With that said I just recently had about 12K of capex on a duplex unexpectedly the first year we owned it.
