Sounds like you've got a solid game plan in place for tackling the considerable amount of knowledge everyone has to gain when they're starting out.

We are opening up most of the downstairs where the dinning room, kitchen, family room and music room (at least that's how we are staging it) are all free flowing so the exposed duct work would be more of an architectural feature on the main floor. 

Take advantage of what the site has to offer such as, word alert features, ebooks, webinars, forums, blogs, informative people in many fields of real estate, contacts, and more.

This is one of my favorite features of Bigger Pockets especially for asking specific questions.
