I second with what @Steve Morris said here -- it's really only a token effort if the exhaust doesn't vent somewhere less damaging than the attic.In general I think you'll find the cost of replacing the exhaust fan in 10 years instead of (perhaps) 15 lower than having the room re-wired to facilitate a dedicated switch for the exhaust.
