Its clear now that the process was taking a long time because the bank was probably waiting for better offers to come in. they asked for another bid not because there was more interest, but because they thought they could get more for the property. it was very strange but it had a good ending. we have lived there for 2.5 years, made what i would conciser a huge improvement to the house, and because of its proximity to the University, we will easily be able to rent in the future once we move on.

But this, in my mind, is the truly "toxic" thinking because who says that a person can't do something like the following: high school > HR Block > EA > Entrepreneur > Night Classes > No debt > CPA > Plenty of options.My path to CPA was as follows:High School > Wash out of college in first year from too much partying > Dead end job for 2 years > Back to school in a certificate program (ie, a business school, not a "real" degree) > Slightly better, but no less crappy jobs in business > Community College for 4 years, nights and weekends while working full time crappy job > Transfer to University, nights and weekends > 9 years later, degree > CPA exam > small, local public accounting firm > industry > Entrepreneur.So many options out there....
