It's definitely worth discussing with an asset protection attorney.

You can take out of and put into a revocable Trust at will when you are the Trustee and it is yours.However, you are loosing the asset protection part of the Trust.

If anything, that could protect your own asset. 

She didn’t protect my interests at all throughout the process other than to make sure the deal was closed.

I would lean towards leveraging my investment property over my personal residence because of the interest right-off, but also because of the protection afforded a personal residence at least here in Kansas. 

They have protections that pets do not have.
